Severgnini (Osservatorio Astronomico di Arcetri, Firenze, Italy)\n\nWe have obtained 9720-second exposure (18 dithered images, 540 s each)\nin\nthe Rc (Bessell) at the position of  GRB 981226.\nData have been carried out  from 4th to 5th October 2000 at the\nESO-VLT UT1 telescope with FORS1 under seeing conditions of ~0.7 arcsec.\n\nThese observations are part of a survey of host galaxies (Saracco et al.\n2000;\nProg. ID: 66.B-0539(A)).\n\nWe reach a limiting magnitude fainter than Rc=27.5 in the final co-added\nimage\n(S/N=3 within the seeing disk).\nWe clearly detect a galaxy at the position of  GRB 981226 as previously\nfound by Holland et al. (2000; GCN #749).\n\nWe measure a magnitude (Vega) Rc=24.8(+-0.1) (galactic extinction\nA(R)=0.06)\nwithin an aperture radius of 2 arcsec.\n\nThis message can be cited.\n\n\n\n--\nPaolo Saracco\nOsservatorio Astronomico di Brera\nVia E.
