Iwakiri (Chiba U.) \nreport on behalf of the MAXI team:\n\nThe MAXI/GSC nova alert system triggered a bright uncatalogued X-ray transient source \nat 14:28:50 UT on January 14, 2024.\nAssuming that the source flux was constant over the transit,\nwe obtain the source position at\n(R.A., Dec) = (78.966 deg, 33.742 deg) = (05 15 51, +33 44 31) (J2000)\nwith a statistical 90% C.L. elliptical error region\nwith long and short radii of 0.28 deg and 0.25 deg, respectively.\nThe roll angle of long axis from the north direction is 159.0 deg counterclockwise.\nThere is an additional systematic uncertainty of 0.1 deg (90% containment radius).\nThe X-ray flux averaged over the scan was 145 +- 21 mCrab\n(4.0-10.0keV, 1 sigma error).\nWithout assumptions on the source constancy, we obtain a rectangular error\nbox for the transient source with the following corners:\n (77.740, 33.819) deg = (05 10 57, +33 49 08) (J2000) \n (77.869, 33.281) deg = (05 11 28, +33 16 51) (J2000) \n (80.079, 33.628) deg = (05 20 18, +33 37 40) (J2000) \n (79.963, 34.167) deg = (05 19 51, +34 10 01) (J2000). \nThere was no significant excess flux in the previous transit at 12:55 UT\nand in the next transit at 16:01 UT with an upper limit of 20 mCrab for each.",
