Kuepcue Yoldas (ESO) report on behalf of the GROND team: \n\nWe observed the field of GRB 080906 (Swift trigger 323984; L. Vetere et\nal., GCN #8186), simultaneously in g'r'i'z'JHK with GROND (Greiner et al.\n2008, PASP 120, 405) mounted at the 2.2m ESO/MPI telescope at La Silla \nObservatory (Chile). \n\nObservations started at 00:12 UT on September 7th, 2008, 10.7 hrs after\nthe GRB trigger.We detect the optical afterglow reported by  L. Vetere et\nal. (GCN #8186) at a position consistent with the UVOT detection in all\nbands, implying a redshift smaller than 3.5. \n\nPreliminary photometry yields the following magnitudes calibrated against\nUSNO-B1 and 2MASS field stars in stacked images: \n\nBand  Exp(min)   Mag \n\ng'    24         22.2 +- 0.1\nr'    24         21.4 +- 0.1\ni'    24         21.2 +- 0.1\nz'    24         21.2 +- 0.1\nJ     20         20.2 +- 0.1\nH     20         19.2 +- 0.1\nK     20         18.5 +- 0.1 \n\nnot corrected for the expected Galactic foreground reddening of E(B-V) =\n0.30 mag (Schlegel et al., 1998).",
