M. M. Chester (PSU) and M. Stamatikos (OSU/NASA/GSFC)
report on behalf of the Swift/UVOT team:
The Swift/UVOT began settled observations of the field of GRB 140705A
65 s after the BAT trigger (Stamatikos et al., GCN Circ. 16520).
No optical afterglow consistent with the XRT position (Osborne et al.
GCN Circ. 16521) is detected in the initial UVOT exposures.
Preliminary 3-sigma upper limits using the UVOT photometric system
(Breeveld et al. 2011, AIP Conf. Proc. 1358, 373) for the first
finding chart (FC) exposure and subsequent exposures are:
Filter T_start(s) T_stop(s) Exp(s) Mag
white_FC 65 215 147 >20.6
u_FC 277 527 246 >20.2
white 65 6023 498 >21.5
v 607 6434 432 >19.8
b 532 7088 268 >21.1
u 277 7048 659 >20.6
w1 656 6843 432 >20.6
m2 5004 6638 393 >20.9
w2 582 6229 432 >21.8
The magnitudes in the table are not corrected for the Galactic extinction
due to the reddening of E(B-V) = 4.88 in the direction of the burst
(Schlegel et al. 1998).
