We report on optical follow-up observations of the Einstein Probe (EP) fast X-ray transient EP240806a, detected by the EP Wide-field X-ray Telescope (WXT, Wu et al., GCN 3763) and by the EP Follow-up X-ray Telescope (FXT, Wang et al., GCN 37069), using one of the Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope Network (LCOGT) 1-m telescopes located at the McDonald Observatory (Texas) LCOGT node, with a single 300 sec exposure in the SDSS r filter. The observation started at 10:40:19 UT on 2024-08-06, i.e. 5.87 hr after the EP trigger. An uncatalogued source is detected at about 1.2 arcsec from the FXT position at the coordinates
RA (J2000) = 00:45:56.679
Dec (J2000)= +05:05:39.64
with an uncertainty of ~ 0.4 arcsec, after astrometric calibration using Gaia DR3 stars, at r = 21.89 +/- 0.15 mag (AB), calibrated with Pan-STARRS stars in the field and not corrected for Galactic extinction. The position and r-band magnitude are consistent with the reports of Li et al. (GCN 37064) and Izzo and Malesani (GCN 37065), respectively.
This work makes use of observations from the Las Cumbres Observatory global telescope network (program IAC2024B-004).
