Subject
GCN 060708: Swift-UVOT Observations
Date

From
Patricia Schady at MSSL/Swift <ps@mssl.ucl.ac.uk>
P. Schady (UCL-MSSL), A. Moretti (INAF-OAB) report on behalf of the
Swift/UVOT team:

The Swift/UVOT began observing the field of GRB 060708 at 12:17:11 UT on
2006-07-08, 72 s after the BAT trigger (Moretti et al., GCN 5292). An
optical counterpart is clearly detected in the white, V, B and U-bands,
and is detected in the UVW1 filter at the 2sigma level. The position of
the optical afterglow lies within the XRT error circle at RA,Dec (J2000) =
00 31 13.82, -33 45 32.4 to within 0.5 arcsec. The lack of a detection in
the two bluest UV filters suggests a photometric redshift of z ~ 1.8. The
photometry results are given for the 7 filters below:

Filter T_Obs(s) Exposure(s) Magnitude/3sig_UL

WHITE 122 97 16.81 +/- 0.07
WHITE 5923 196 19.23 +/- 0.32
V 294 52 15.53 +/- 0.16
V 4901 197 19.78 +/- 0.63
B 4287 196 19.60 +/- 0.23
B 5719 193 20.27 +/- 0.65
U 4082 192 18.85 +/- 0.17
U 5514 189 18.78 +/- 0.20
W1 3776-5600 392 20.18 +/- 0.52 (coadded)
M2 3568-5392 385 20.00 (3 sigma UL)
W2 4592-6352 353 19.77 (3 sigma UL)

The values quoted above are not corrected for the expected Galactic
extinction E(B-V)=0.011
