We carried out the follow-up observations of GRB 210217A ( Simpson et al.
GCN #29521) with Aries Devasthal Faint Object Spectrograph and Camera
(ADFOSC) mounted on the 3.6m Devasthal Optical Telescope (DOT) at Devasthal
observatory of Aryabhatta Research Institute of observational sciencES
(ARIES), India. We detected the optical afterglow (Simpson et al. GCNs
#29521,29555; Zhu et al. GCN #29523; Zheng et al. GCN #29533; Shrestha et
al. GCN #29535; Kumar et al., GCN #29539) at ~ 1.7 days after the burst.
Preliminary photometry is following :

The reported magnitudes are calibrated with the nearby PanSTARRS field and
are not corrected for Galactic extinction in the direction of the burst.
Using our data along with the data taken from Zhu et al. GCN #29523; Zheng
et al. GCN #29533; Kumar et al., GCN #29539, we obtain a decay index of
0.47 +- 0.03 consistent with the value quoted by Shrestha et al. # GCN
29535.

We observed the field of GRB 210217A (Simpson et al., GCN 29521) with
AZT-33IK telescope of Sayan observatory (Mondy) on 2021-02-19 and XX.
Within enhanced XRT position (Evans et al., GCN 29525) we do not detect
afterglow (Simpson et al., GCNs 29521,29555; Zhu et al., GCN 29523;
Zheng et al., GCN 29533; Shrestha et al., GCN 29535; Kumar et al., GCN
29539). Preliminary photometry of the filed is following

A light curve of afterglow of GRB 210217A (based on published
photometry) and upper limits can be found in

Using upper upper limit we may suggest a possible jet break of the
light curve we may suggest a jet break between 1.58 and 3.71 days after
power law decay with index alpha of -0.48 (Shrestha et al., GCN 29535).

GRB 210217A: Swift/UVOT Detection
K. K. Simpson (PSU) reports on behalf of the Swift/UVOT team:
The Swift/UVOT began settled observations of the field of GRB 210217A
103 s after the BAT trigger (Simpson et al., GCN Circ. 29521).
A source consistent with the XRT position
*** POSITION REFERENCE is GCN_Notice ***
is detected in the initial UVOT exposures.
The preliminary UVOT position is:
RA (J2000) = 06:30:19.90 = 97.58291 (deg.)
Dec (J2000) = +68:43:30.6 = 68.72517 (deg.)
with an estimated uncertainty of 0.46 arc sec. (radius, 90% confidence).
Preliminary detections using the UVOT photometric system
(Breeveld et al. 2011, AIP Conf. Proc. 1358, 373) for the early exposures
are:

The magnitudes in the table are not corrected for the Galactic extinction
due to the reddening of E(B-V) = 0.102 in the direction of the burst

We observed the optical afterglow of the Swift detected GRB 210217A
(Simpson et al. GCN 29521; Evans et al., GCN 29525) with the 1.3m Devsthal
Fast Optical Telescope (DFOT) at Aryabhatta Research Institute of
Observational Sciences (ARIES), Nainital (India), on 2021-02-18 from UT
17:31:22 to 19:09:31 (corresponding to 18.094 to 19.730 hours from the GRB
trigger time). We observed a series of 30x120s exposures in the Bessel R
filter and a series of 20x120s exposures in the Bessel I filter. We clearly
detected the optical afterglow of GRB 210217A in the stacked frames within
the Swift XRT error circle (Simpson et al. GCN 29521) as also reported by
Zhu et al., GCN 29523; Zheng & Filippenko GCN 29533; Shrestha et al. GCN
29535.
The estimated preliminary magnitudes are as follows:

The magnitudes are not corrected for the Galactic extinction in the

team:
We have analysed 6.8 ks of XRT data for GRB 210217A (Simpson et al. GCN
Circ. 29521), from 109 s to 80.4 ks after the BAT trigger. The data
are entirely in Photon Counting (PC) mode. The enhanced XRT position
for this burst was given by Evans et al. (GCN Circ. 29525).
The light curve can be modelled with a power-law decay with a decay
index of alpha=0.79 (+/-0.05).
A spectrum formed from the PC mode data can be fitted with an absorbed
power-law with a photon spectral index of 1.97 (+0.23, -0.22). The
best-fitting absorption column is 2.5 (+0.9, -0.8) x 10^21 cm^-2, in
excess of the Galactic value of 8.7 x 10^20 cm^-2 (Willingale et al.
2013). The counts to observed (unabsorbed) 0.3-10 keV flux conversion
factor deduced from this spectrum is 3.7 x 10^-11 (5.1 x 10^-11) erg
cm^-2 count^-1.
A summary of the PC-mode spectrum is thus:
Total column: 2.5 (+0.9, -0.8) x 10^21 cm^-2
Galactic foreground: 8.7 x 10^20 cm^-2
Excess significance: 3.3 sigma
Photon index: 1.97 (+0.23, -0.22)

Fermi GBM Sub-Threshold Detection of GRB 210217A

C. Fletcher (USRA) reports on behalf of the Fermi-GBM Team:
Swift-BAT detected GRB 210217A at 23:25:42 UT (GCN 29521). There was no
Fermi-GBM onboard trigger around the event.
An automated, blind search for short gamma-ray bursts below the onboard
triggering threshold in Fermi-GBM identified a high reliability transient
consistent in both time and location with the Swift BAT event.

The GBM targeted search [1], the most sensitive, coherent search for
GRB-like signals also identified a transient most significantly on the 1.024 s
timescale, with a log likelihood ratio of 72 and a location consistent with
the Swift BAT event. The GBM targeted search event was found with the highest
significance with a "normal" spectrum (Band function with
Epeak = 230 keV, alpha = -1.0, beta = -2.3) for a GRB.

We observed the field of Swift GRB 210217A (GCN 29521) with the 2.0m Liverpool Telescope (LT), La Palma on 2021 Feb 17 starting at 23:28:51.056 UT
using the IO:O optical camera in the r�, i�, and z� bands. Data were calibrated with respect to nearby APASS secondary standard stars for r� and i� bands
and SDSS secondary standard stars for z� band. We confirm the optical counterpart reported by Swift UVOT and NEXT (GCN 29523).
At T=194 seconds after the BAT trigger time, we measure r� = 18.51 +/- 0.3 mag which is close to 18.6 +/- 0.2 mag detected by NEXT team (GCN 29523).
The r� band light curve made with IO:O observations show a power law decay over the first hour in flux vs time with alpha = 0.48.
At T = 690 seconds after the BAT trigger time, we measure i� = 18.77 +/- 0.1 mag and at T = 868 seconds after the trigger we measure z� = 18.67 +/-0.1 mag.
